As often as we can, we try to drop some insights and knowledge on our blog that we hope DIY, independent artists may find helpful. Here’s some topics we’ve covered so far:
+ Questions you need to ask yourself
For some reason, too many independent artists still just don’t get it. They keep doing the same thing that they’ve been doing for years – the same thing that everyone else is doing. This essay asks the critical questions that independent artists need to be asking themselves today, if they want to succeed and be relevant in today’s ultra competitive, over-saturated ocean of musicians.
+ CD Baby DIY Podcast + Pet Marmoset
Pet Marmoset’s Ryan Wines joins CD Baby’s Kevin Breuner and Chris Robley on the CD Baby DIY Musician Podcast to discuss The Art of Frequency, among other topics.
This is actually a 14-page extended essay, hence the decision to call it a “manifesto.” Plus, we just like using the word, “manifesto.” It just sorta rolls off the tongue in a cool way. You can almost imagine a Russian double agent saying it during a very secret meeting at busy cafe in Paris, in the midst of a major exchange of information. Seriously though, this essay is packed with some very big ideas and strategies that we feel are essential to understanding how to cope, and better yet, succeed in the economy of today’s music business. Please give it a read…share it with a friend….and let us know what you think about it.
+ The Art of Frequency: Part II
The “Art of Frequency” strategy has been a hot topic of discussion among our peers and even spurred an invitation for Pet Marmoset leader, Ryan Wines, to join-in on a round table discussion on the CD Baby DIY Musician Podcast. It’s Episode #54, if you’re interested.
+ The Art of Frequency: Part I
This is the first “Art of Frequency” essay, where we went to great lengths to tell you how much we love Spoon….and The Beatles.
We know what you’re thinking about this one – Relationship Management 101… You are probably thinking that you are already relatively good with relationships and definitely don’t need a basic level (101) digest on how to manage relationships. Right? I mean, the title of this alone is pretty off-putting and slightly condescending, isn’t it?
Well GET OVER IT. Many artists naturally think they are good at managing relationships, when truth be told, they’re not. Honestly, this essay is more about giving you some practical and effective tools and processes for managing and improving relationships in the media and music community. It’s more helpful than you might think it would be, based on it’s shitty title.
+ DIY Doesn’t Mean Do It ALL Yourself
This essay will confirm everything that you thought to be true about having a band and trying to succeed in the music biz: you can’t do it alone. You NEED help. In this essay, we tell you where to focus your efforts and where you need help. We also tell you what to expect and how to go about getting the help you need.
While this post may look like shameless promotion for The Dimes, it isn’t. Not completely anyways… It’s more about giving you a wonderful case study and example of what a good, successful artist blog can look like, along with some ideas of how to use your blog – such as posting demos.
