I was perusing Aquarium Drunkard – a solid music blog the other day when I stumbled across these very cool old Beach Boys recordings. Apparently, they are from a 1967 rehearsal session – not intended to be released or even shared with the public. I’m sure enough time has passed that it’s okay now, right?
All of the tracks are bare bones, very understated and to the point. They certainly provide a unique insight to this band and how they worked.
The Beach Boys – God Only Knows
The Beach Boys – California Girls
The Beach Boys – Surfer Girl
The Beach Boys – You’re So Good To Me
The Beach Boys – The Letter
The Beach Boys – Help Me Rhonda
The Beach Boys – Heroes & Villains
The Beach Boys – Their Hearts Were Full of Spring
Unfortunately, there’s no Barbara Ann in this set. I was all ready to get creative with John McCain’s “Bomb bomb bomb…bomb bomb Iran!” Wow, I bet he never sings that again… And in case you miss that, here’s an update:
Thank you to Aquarium Drunkard for sharing these songs.
No one loves the Beach Boys more than I – thanks for sharing this!
