Im the founder of a new pay-what-you-want music service called Aralie.com. We took what radiohead did and made it mass market. We are proof that this model works, 80% of people are willing to more then retail for music when they have the choice. Just by the growth of our site artists are very interested in trying out this model to, and it is most definitely a viable option for musicians.

Interesting read. Quite insightful. While I'm still a little hesitant on how well the model works, even for a band like Radiohead, the times of traditional releases are gone. Something has to be done and at least, this is a step in the right direction.
