First day back in the saddle again… the saddle meaning a more structured daytime regimen, more regular pay checks, and a much more collaborative, interactive environment. Damn, it feels good.
Anyhow, I’m working with a colleague on a little project that I thought I’d bring to my blog… Our boss is giving a presentation at a Publishing Technology forum in Los Angeles this week. He’s unveiling an innovative, new marketing concept he’s calling “kontenting” and we’re doing a little experiment of sorts to see how many blog rankings we can get on Google for this new word in a single day. So here’s a description of what kontenting really is, which I’ll follow later on with the actual presentation that Tim will give on Thursday in L.A.
Kontenting: Marketing content WITH content.
With rising media costs and decreasing advertising efficiencies, people with content or news to market (books, music, information products, etc.) can now put to action low-cost tactics that grow directly from whatever content you need to market. The concept is based on leveraging compelling content in as many formats as possible, then making it highly accessible and easy to share.
Utilizing online PR strategies, social media tools, blogs, and search engine marketing, kontenting is the art of delivering and leveraging optimized content as a means of marketing the content itself.
Cool, huh?
MAY 30th UPDATE:
Here is the downloadable presentation that I referred to above. It does a little better job of explaining what “kontenting” is all about.

Let me know if you have any questions.
Wow, that is awesome!
Normally I’m rather adept at parsing corporo-jargon, but I must say, this leaves me scratching my head.
So…it’s web marketing? But..different.
We had almost a page and a half of Google search results by 8am this morning… about 12 hours later.
Not bad, huh?

I think Web2.0 may have left me behind on this one. (I can still blog! I can still youtube! (Mytube!) I even manage my own website–but this is all end-use activity; I have perhaps been outdated on the back-end.
Hmm…maybe I should look into that. Take a class or something.
Also, you’ll have to explain this to me in person at some point. Maybe you can use a Venn diagram!
Do not fear Kyle… Here is a quick and easy explanation of what “kontenting” is all about:

Let me know what you think.
